Last summer I attended a medical missions trip to Peru where I acted as a provider. I felt so out of my comfort zone prescribing medications and diagnosing patients. It was frustrating because I kept thinking, I went to nursing school, not medical! Nonetheless, it was a challenging week with so many emotions. Toward the end however, I just felt so uneasy about the trip.
For weeks leading up to the missions trip I had sensed something incredible was going to occur during my ten days in Peru. I felt it! Yet, here I was wrapping up the last few days, feeling empty and inadequate. But, unbeknownst to me, something incredible did happen!
It was the second to last day which I remember very vividly. My good friend wore a t-shirt that sparked some interest! It said The World Race with a bunch of countries listed. Being the travel conousoer I am, was instantly intrigued! What is that all about? Tell me more! A missions trip to eleven countries in eleven months? It sounded crazy, yet equally as amazing. What an opportunity to be able to share Jesus around the world! I came home from that trip and instantly began praying in regard to becoming a future World Racer.
Fast forward one year later…. I was truly struggling whether or not I was being called as a World Race participant. But, I had a moment two weeks ago of what I call, sweet affirmation. I was in church listening to a Sunday morning sermon with the contexts being, Jeremiah’s calling from God. I can’t explain the peace and confirmation I received from The Lord regarding His calling on my life that day. I promptly paid my deposit and here I am!
If you would have asked me ten years, or even five years ago, if I could forsee this in my future the answer would be most definitely be, ya right! That’s the beauty of following Christ. He will direct you the right way if you let Him! His plans for your life are so much sweeter.
“For I know the plans I have for you declares The Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” -Jeremiah 29:11
