What Would It Look Like If… We Embraced Community?

It’s ridiculous how faithful God is to teach me something new every month.  Does it weird me out that he continues to theme everything for me? Yes, but only because I genuinely hate cheese (short for cheesiness which in itself is a word of cheese).

Imagine a place where your front door stays open from the moment you wake up until you fall asleep at night. A place where people don’t knock, they just announce themselves as they’re walking in. A place where everyone you see as you walk, drive or ride in the back of a pick-up knows your name. A place where people literally stop their cars in the road to say hello when they pass you walking on the sidewalk. A place where people feed one another because their neighbors are genuinely going without food. A place where people care so much about you, they rally together in your home to pray, sing and then sip tea together. This place exists. It has a name. It is Cape Town, South Africa.
I have been humbled more times this month then I have in my entire life. I have never met more genuine people who just love each other enough to live life together. This is what God intended for us when He said to “love thy neighbor as yourself”. It was a literal statement.

I might have said good-bye to “Ma and Pa” for now but I am certain that they are family for life. That is just how it is here.

Looking forward to starting my own commune-ity when I get back to the states. Hope to see you there! (HA =))
