I am very excited to have been given the opportunity to go on the World Race through Adventures in Missions! I am so thankful for the words of encouragement and for the donations that have started coming in.
My journey on the World Race has officially begun. I need to raise $17,000 in order to go on the World Race, which is a daunting amount. I honestly wish I could write one big check and not have to ask for support. Not only is that not possible to do, but that would be robbing God from showing up in big ways and allowing others to be part of my journey.
I’ve begun talking to family and friends about the World Race and there have been a lot of questions, which I both expect and enjoy answering. I wanted to answer some of the commonly asked questions for everyone 🙂
What is the World Race? Where are you going? What will you be doing? What do you bring with you? How much does this cost?
What is the World Race?
“The World Race is a stretching journey into 11 countries in 11 months to serve ‘the least of these’ while amongst real and raw community. This unique mission trip is a challenging adventure for young adults to abandon worldly possessions and a traditional lifestyle in exchange for an understanding that it’s not about you; it’s about the Kingdom.”
Where are you going?
The 11 countries my squad and I will be traveling to is called “Route 1.” They are as follows:
Dominican Republic, Haiti, Costa Rica, Panama, South Africa, Lesotho, Mozambique, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Keep in mind this route is subject to change at any time depending on conditions in each country.
What will you be doing in each country?
My team and I will be partnering with local churches and ministries to plant churches, work in orphanages, help with construction, minister to women and children who are trapped in prostitution as a result of human trafficking, teach in the classrooms, assist with natural disaster relief and many other things, all while preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Each month will be a different ministry and my team won’t know until we arrive in each country and begin doing it.
What do you bring with you?
A backpack. A tent. A sleeping mat. A sleeping bag.
All my clothes, toiletries, shoes, etc. for the year will be stuffed into a 65L pack and a smaller day pack. My home will be a tent and my bed will be a sleeping mat. Sounds fun, right?
How much does it cost?
To go on the World Race I need to raise $16,962 (to be exact).
This money covers travel, training costs, food, lodging, and other group expenses from the time we leave in January to when we arrive back in the U.S. in November.
It does not however include gear, vaccinations, travel to and from training/launch, and personal spending money while on the Race.
While Adventures in Missions (the organization that runs the World Race) allows you to keep raising money until month 4 in the field (April 2016), it is my prayer that I will be fully funded by the time we leave in January. It would alleviate the stress of having to raise funds while overseas.
My deadlines are as follows:
August 13th, 2015 – $150 Deposit (2 weeks after your acceptance date.)
September 22nd, 2015 – $3,900 (2 weeks before Training Camp)
December 15th, 2015 – $10,000 (2 weeks prior to my trip)
February 26th, 2016 – $13,000 (End of 2 months on the field)
April 28th, 2016 – $16,962 TOTAL DUE (End of 4 months on the field)
At times, I am a little overwhelmed just thinking of how life will be incredibly different next year. Sometimes I wonder if I am crazy for trying to do this right now. But, I am certain that I am called to do this! I would love for you to join me in this wonderful mission to spread God’s love. Please follow my blog for updates. I have already felt so blessed by the encouragement and support I’ve received. Thank you so much!
