Hey guys, Happy Halloween!
Thanks for keeping up with the blog! I’ve been here in Guatemala for a month and a half now (crazy). Here’s a few pictures from my time here. I don’t have a ton of pictures from ministry, but I’ll upload them as they are taken 🙂
I realized yesterday I don’t actually have any pictures of the community we work in, San Jose Calderas. I took a quick picture at the bus stop on the way home, but it doesn’t do it justice. Calderas is GORGEOUS, and so colorful with the leaves changing!! More pictures to follow!
This is Elsa, our ministry host/Guatemalan grandma. We go to her house everyday and have coffee with her then go and teach english class in her garage. She is the sweetest, yet sassiest lady I’ve ever met. This was on her birthday last week where she made us food and we had tons of cake. (we’re probably laughing at her calling us gringas)
My awesome teammates
Part of my class; I teach about 30 middle school aged girls in the room behind us. They are so sweet and patient with me as I attempt to explain things in my broken spanish. Today, we’re making kites in class. Tomorrow is Guatemala’s version of Day of the Dead, where they have competitions to see who can keep their kite up the longest.
These boys are our ministry host’s grandsons. They love to play duck duck goose with us and have us chase them around their house. They DONT love having their picture taken.
Our ministry host’s grand-daughter. She’s two months old and the cutest baby I have ever seen! Look at that smile!!!
The President of Guatemala landed his helicopter 100 feet from our house for a ribbon cutting of a highway opening down the street. One of the most random things ever, but also one of the coolest.
My blonde gals one night at debrief. Debrief is the week long rest/vacation we get every couple of months to process.
The beautiful Lake Atitlan, where we had debrief. This was taken on the cliff we jumped off of 🙂
The whole squad at debrief!
The beautiful mountains around Lake Atitlan one morning on a sunrise hike
This is from the morning hike at debrief. My pals didn’t want to wake up at 3:30am, so they had me photoshop them into a picture to send to their family. (Check the mad photoshopping skills).
I HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS:
My squad got a route change! Instead of going to Malaysia, we will be going to Myanmar! They decided to change our route because the ministry contacts in Malaysia aren’t as reliable as in Myanmar. I’m super excited to go to Myanmar because they just opened their borders 3 years ago so it’s practically untouched by western culture!!
Fundraising:
I have a few teammates (and my leader) that are still fundraising to be here. The deadline for our the sum of of our money is in January, which is quickly approaching. Please playfully consider donating towards them, they are making a huge difference here in Guatemala.
