There is a man I know that became disabled at a young age due to an accident. Because of his circumstances, he lives on limited means. Despite this, he goes out of his way to help people in any way he can. He is kind-hearted, considerate, and loves others.
Last week I visited the church he attends. Through my parents, he has been keeping up with the trip. “How much more do you have to go?” he asked me excitedly. I told him the amount I needed to meet my September goal. “You’re going to get it, I know you are! I’ve been praying for you.” I responded “I know you have, thank you. That means a lot to me.” He prays earnestly with full faith that things will happen.
Later in the service when everyone was standing to greet each other, he walked up and put $7.00 in my hand. “This is for your mission trip,” he said. As he started to walk away he spread his arms out wide and said, “I don’t have much.” I looked at him dumbfounded. I called out his name to explain to him how much his gift meant to me.
I’ve known him for 25 years and I know his life. He lives on a limited income. I know this was a sacrifice for him. Someone could’ve put a thousand dollars in my hand and that seven dollars meant just as much to me. Why? Because it came from his heart! It came from a place of true giving, sacrifice, love, and wanting to see the gospel being shared. His gift reminds me of Mark 12:43, the parable of the widow giving all she had.
I’m thankful for the people who believe in this mission. Without your support and encouragement, I wouldn’t be here.
