Mozambique is nice. The people are really friendly here and the area is gorgeous. We are right near the shore of the Indian Ocean…completely gorgeous. Palm trees everywhere and the land covered with green. The night sky couldn’t be described with a zillion words. There are so many stars every night, it’s like you can see every star in the sky. And if you stand out for at least 5 minutes, you’re sure to see a shooting star. There are 3 restaurants in the entire town, only one grocery type store and absolutely no internet (other than at the house of the missionary here). We’ve been here for a little over a week and not much has happened so far. We came under the assumption that we would be doing relief work, working within possibly a refugee camp, a feeding program, etc. When showing up we found out that the relief work was finished about a month ago. We found out again, that our contacts here had no idea that they were actually our contacts. They thought they were just helping us out with transportation to our first site. A few sites had been set up for us in the bush, contingent on another mans transportation. When arriving on site, our team decided not to stay due to safety and miscommunications. We began to become frustrated…again waiting and doing nothing.
This is when God stepped in and changed up our situation. We met an Assembly of God missionary that is here in Mozambique from South Africa. He and his family (a wife and 2 children, a boy and girl) have been living here and doing SO MUCH for the people in Mozambique. They are working with about 50 orphans, traveling to different villages showing the ‘Jesus Film’, a few building projects, etc. We asked if our team could come alongside of him to help while we are here and he agreed. We are so excited to finally be here with them doing work! Over the next few weeks we will be traveling with them into different villages, putting up a big screen and showing the Jesus Film in their language. We also will be helping with the orphans he works with. Actually today, after church, we are taking the orphans to the beach and feeding them. He also has some building projects that we hope to help with and we asked if we could babysit his children at some point so he could take his wife out. We hope to serve them as much as possible while we are here. Meeting them and being here with them has been such a
huge present to me from God. We’ve have been here, tenting in their front yard since yesterday. We’ve spent a lot of time helping clean up and just listening to their story. While typing this, the mother actually came over and gave me a huge hug and kiss on the top of the head. It’s very refreshing here and refreshing to be able to serve and spend time with them. Another bonus is that their house overlooks a beautiful lake which I’m looking at now as I write this. That’s about all I have for now. I’m sure after the next 2 weeks, I’ll have enough stories and memories to fill a book. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers…it’s so exciting to see God working in Mozambique. I’ll write again when I can.
