I mentioned a few days ago that I had worked with a local school for a bit. I took some video and was going to post it but I messed it up 🙁 . I still wanted to show you a few pics of the place…so on Wednesday I cooked a zillion cup cakes to surprise my classroom with.
Here’s a short run down of the school…..
God’s child is a school that was set up a few years ago. The have social workers who explore different villages. They find the poorest families and then give children in those families scholarships to attend the school. They are given 2 meals a day (for most of the children that is the only food they receive because their families are big and too poor to provide consistent food). They also receive free education, clothing, medical and dental needs, and tons of love and support from the staff there. When arriving to school they each take their toothbrush out of the ‘toothbrush box’ and brush away. The teacher I worked with was amazing! Each morning she would go from chair to chair, combing, brushing and fixing each child’s hair. She lavished out affection on them. She really is great…
BACK TO THE CUPCAKES! 🙂
It was so much fun! I made confetti cupcakes with confetti icing and then added jelly beans to the top. I also made each kid in the class a card with their name and a whinny the pooh sticker (he’s popular here) to the front and then the middle said in Spanish ‘You are very special to God’. Here are a few pictures from the day…
Bringing the cupcakes in…
Handing out the cards…
Eating the cupcakes…(i’ve never seen kids eat cupcakes so SLOW…)
Getting thanks you’s, hugs and kisses…saying goodbye.
And here they all are… 🙂
Say a prayer for these kids…most of them come from tough home lives. Some experience physical and verbal abuse, some have families who don’t eat on a regular basis. A few girls I worked with one on one were unable to draw a triangle (at age 8 and 9)…Despite all this, these kids are full of joy, life and laughter. They gush out love…and have definitely found a place in my heart.
