When did compromise become acceptable to
God? When did He say, “I no longer ask for total commitment, go ahead and
divide your heart. I don’t need all of it.”? God’s never been ok with
compromise, He’s never asked for
anything less than 100%…but in our human
pride and arrogance we try to bring God down to our level, and dilute the truth
down to something that’s a little more comfortable and easy to swallow.
Something that’s not so demanding and doesn’t require the same level of
sacrifice. We take the parts of the Bible that make us feel good and that are
easy to follow, and we kindly push away those parts that seem unreasonable, the
parts that ask a little too much of us. We mix the benefits of living for God with
the benefits of living in the world. We swirl together our own religion and
call it good.

We
look at OUR forms of compromise as “acceptable”, yet look at the woman in Mozambique
who thinks she can come to church, worship Jesus, and still go to the witch
doctor; and we judge her. I look at her and arrogantly think, “How can she
possibly think it’s ok to mix God with Satan?” I was talking to my mom about
how absurd that seems to me, and here was her response.

I find your comment
about the people trying to live in both worlds of Christianity and witchcraft
very interesting. It is packaged a little differently than what we Americans
are used to seeing but in reality is no different then when we try to live in
both worlds….claim the name of Christ and yet live our lives in direct
contradiction to God’s Word. I’m sure you’ve experienced plenty of it back
home, it just looks a little more blatant when it involves witchcraft and
demons…etc.”

What’s
the difference?
