When is a language barrier a good thing? Well consider this…have you ever been a guest at someone’s house and something you were served was just plain awful? Of course you smile, manage to clean your plate, and tell your host you loved it. You wouldn’t dare insult her cooking, so you just keep your thoughts to yourself. How fun would it be to actually be able to speak openly and honestly about everything you were being served? Welcome the beauty of a language barrier. 🙂
Today was the 2nd time we had been invited over for lunch by a particular family in our church. They are very sweet and generous people, and we’ve really enjoyed getting to know them as we pray for them and talk with them.

The meals they’ve served have been very good, but I can’t tell you how funny it is to sit there and talk about the sauce being bland, the very strange combinations of food, the chicken head staring back at us from the serving dish, the over abundance of tortillas on the table, Jamaican juice…again, or any number of things that have made our local Mexican dining so… unique.

We are extremely grateful for their generosity and hospitality, but I have to admit that it is kinda fun being able to say whatever we want at the dinner table and as long as we keep a smile on our face, they have absolutely no idea what we’re saying!

This is our attempt at taking a true “Mexican” picture…they very rarely smile for pictures (unless you catch them off guard) so we were just trying to fit it…little did we know that behind us, they were all smiling! Oh well!
