Once again…pictures will be coming soon…sorry!
Yesterday was race day in South Africa.
The race was set up similarly to the race in Lima
and allowed us to see a lot of great points of interest in Johannesburg
and Pretoria (the capital of South Africa.)
There was no swimming, which we all greatly appreciated, but there were still
huge amounts of running. We got to see the Union Governmental Building, take a
train to Johannesburg, run through the zoo taking pictures with animals, run
through a park eat a mixed platter at a very “African” restaurant (I’m still
not sure exactly what is was that we ate), get our faces painted, go through
the Apartheid Museum answering questions about it, and end at the 50th
floor of the Carlton Centre Tower in downtown Johannesburg.
Our racing 4 were Jon, Eric,
me, and Ginger…I was by far the slowest during the running legs of the race,
and thought I was going to die throughout most of it, but the guys were really
supportive and just kept cheering me on. We thought we were ahead throughout
most of the race, but then again you NEVER know where everyone else is at. We
have plenty of crazy stories of everything that happened, but suffice it to say
that when we got out of the elevator at the end of the race Kari and Talia were
there screaming for us because we were there first! We still had to turn in all
our pictures and information, but after all the scores were tallied and
penalties assessed, our victory still stood! So that makes 2, but who’s
counting?:)
