The past week we have been in Phenix city, Alabama and Columbus, Georgia. Besides the fact that they spell Phoenix wrong I really enjoyed my time in Phenix. There were also a lot of times where I was uncomfortable.
The past week we have been working with an organization called take the city but more specifically with Redeen in Columbus, Georgia. They spread the word to those in most need. Our first weekend there we joined them in what they call “war weekend.” We went out with a group of about 20 people and drove around an area with high prostitution rates. We went to hotels, Walmart, and a sex store. It really opened my eyes to what really is happening in the US. I feel a lot of people like to think that prostitution does not exist in the US. The sad truth is that it does.
The first night out I basically sat in the van the entire time. I was afraid to get out and talk to the women because I was afraid I would say the wrong thing. Towards the end of the night though we ended up at a hotel. We saw a group of men surrounding a mom with 2 children. She was clearly distraught. Somehow she was able to get away before we could talk to her. Two of the males we were with decided to go see if they could catch up with her and talk to her. We headed around to the back of the hotel to see if we could find anybody else we could help. We didnt see anyone so we decided to head over to the gas station where the guys said they would meet us.
When we got to the gas station the guys quickly jumped in and said they’d lost her but they had a general idea of where she went. We headed down the street they think she went down. It was very dark and hard to see. Eventually we came to a fork in the road. Our driver decided to go right and in that second I saw her on the other street. I quickly told them and we went down the other street. We were able to convince her to come with us so we could get her help. She came back to our hotel room with us which we were using as a base. It broke my heart to see the poor mom. She spent the night in the hotel room we had but was gone before everyone returned. If we can all pray for this mom and her children that they get a better life that would be amazing.
After the first weekend we didnt have much going on so we took a sabbath day and an adventure day. Our hosts son invited us to go shoot some guns on our adventure day. I have not been shooting since the police academy but it was like I never stopped. It was like riding a bike.
The rest of the week we helped our host clean the house they are turning into an Airbnb. One day we were praying and worshiping in the house when we felt a negative energy. Instead of worshiping for about 30 minutes we worshiped for 4 hours. I felt like I really broke free. I haven’t danced freely in years and I finally broke free and just listened to the music and danced. It was amazing.
This week has been really fulfilling. We just arrived in Memphis Tennessee for our first debrief and I’m excited to see what the week has in store.
