Society says he who dies with the most toys wins but that is a skewed perspective. It is also not biblically based (1 Timothy 6:7). I was reading the book of Colossians last night and came across this verse: “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2). I then thought of James 4:14 where it talks about life being a vapor, here today gone tomorrow.
So if life is so short, as the Bible says it is, I don’t want to waste my life on things that will burn and fade away. I realize how contrary this worldview is to that of society. For instance, if you go out people watching, like at the mall, it is evident eternal life isn’t on the minds of most people. Try it. Go up to someone and say, ‘Hey, I’d like to talk to you about eternal life’ most likely the response will be somewhere along the lines of I don’t have time for that.
Trying to grasp heaven in our earthly bodies is almost impossible. Just the thought of eternity is hard to understand for me. But I know it is real. And it is what I live for.
