Before I left for training camp my grandma gave me bracelet that said “enjoy the journey.” I didn’t know then how impactful that would be to my experiences here in Costa Rica. After a 1 hour van ride to the bus station then another 4 hour bus ride to get to Los Chiles I was so drained-and the humidity here is like none other and honestly I was overwhelmed by it all. But then the Holy Spirit came to me and reminded me of the promise I made of finding the beauty ,and God in every situation and my attitude instantly changed. The work we do at our ministry host farm( which is less barn and animals and more rain forest and mountains) is helping build a church. So it’s been a lot of manual labor, more than I’ve never thought I could possibly do in my life but it caused me to rely so much on God’s strength and he has shown me a strength in myself that I never knew I had. All though it was hard I was able to see the bigger picture of what we were doing- something that’s beyond just me in the now and that’s really amazing. Yesterday and this morning we had opportunity to go to kids club and really pour of love and time into them. We sung worship songs in Spanish, did skits that taught them what being a missionary is and how they can do it in their own homes. We braided each other’s hair and played soccer in beautiful green fields. Being here in Costa Rica is so different than home in many ways but I’m seeing God in new ways and through such beautiful people. When we first got to Costa Rica we met our van driver Afredo and even though he didn’t speak English his passion and joy for Christ surpassed all possible barriers. Our ministry host Tony and Rosita are so kind and loving that we feel so taken care of. My route mates all have the most beautiful hearts and we all feel Gods intentionality in forming our groups everyday that were together. We’re all walking forward with a yes heart and through that I know Gods got great things in store for not just the rest of the month, but for all the days to come.
