I was watching Lord of the Rings the other day, for probably the hundred-thousandth time. Yes, I am just a little bit obsessed, but obsessed with good reason. J.R.R. Tolkien was a genius, his writing is amazing and his stories are incredible. Even down to the last detail…

…ANYWAYS, getting back off of my nerdy rabbit trail, I was watching one of the movies and I had a thought.

I began thinking about the loyalty of the people to their king. And not only fictional characters from the Lord of the Rings, but people in history, back when they actually did fight bloody and intense battles similar to the ones in the movie. The devotion of the people is uncanny. They didn't know if they would be successful in their battles, or if they would go down by the sword. But their devotion to their families, country and very lives overshadowed their fears and forseeable death to the point that courage took over. And from there they fought. They trusted that their leader/king knew what was best for them and would make the right decision, and put everything they had into following his lead.

As these observations passed through my mind, something hit me…WE ALREADY KNOW WHO IS GOING TO WIN! (Rather, who HAS won)…Wow. It is one thing to have to have faith in God and believe that He will accomplish what He wants, but MORE should we be able to devote and give of ourselves when we can know that the King of all kings has already won and in in full control of the battle! How much more zeal can we muster up in our every day living, our love, our trust in Him? We can rest in the knowledge that He knows what is best and that we can follow Him with joy and victory!

He has done so much for us. Jesus took on the very wrath of God in our stead, so that we would never have to taste death…so we can walk in the freedom He has given us, with thanksgiving. And we should strive with everything in our being shine His light for all of the world to see, as He commanded us to in Matthew 6.

So today, trust in your King, and follow His lead wholeheartedly.
Rest assured, He has already won the day.
