Here's the latest happenings with my World Race prep:
Support: Support raising is coming along, slowly but surely. I have about $5000 in my account, which is pretty awesome! Thanks to everyone who has supported me so far. My squad is really hoping to be fully funded before we leave in September, which means I have about $10,000 more to raise. It's a big number, but with a few more fundraisers and continued support from family and friends, I hope to launch with a full support account!
Gear: I haven't bought any gear yet. To tell the truth, the whole gear thing kind of intimidates me. I've never backpacked or even seriously camped before, and there are so many different kinds of packs, tents, sleeping bags, etc to choose from. But with some help from my squadmate Christina and the awesome staff at REI, I have a registry at REI of the major gear I will need. Upcoming events: During the weekend of June 25th, I'll be having a rummage sale at Domagalski Photography to help raise support. I need donations to sell! I'll be happy to pick up your donations at your home or you can drop them off at the studio or my place. I'll take anything you have!
I'm hoping to have a drive-in movie fundraiser at the studio sometime soon. Stay tuned for more details!
Prayer Requests: I am right in the middle of crazy wedding photography season with weddings to shoot every weekend. Yikes! I've been finding myself completely preoccupied with editting photos, implementing new techiques and keeping up with clients and contracts. Because of this, I haven't been thinking as much about the Race as I would like. So prayer for calm nerves and a focused mind while shooting and good time management during post processing so I can spend time preparing for the Race.
Training camp is next month and I'm really excited to meet my squadmates – the wonderful people I'll be traveling the world with. I'm planning on driving there with Christina and then flying back to shoot a wedding on July 9th. Please pray for safe travels for me and everyone else.
