If you haven't heard of Awkward Family Photos, you're missing out. It's a collection of family photos submitted by people who don't mind laughing at themselves and having other people laugh at them. As a photographer, I enjoy it because 1) it provides wonderful examples of what not to do when posing groups of people and 2) it makes me feel good about my photographic abilities.
In Cornesti, our home for the month, we don't have internet or TV, so we have to find new and creative ways to entertain ourselves. Fortunately, the church we are ministering to has a wonderful room filled with piles of clothes donated from various places to take to needy families in the neighborhood. Our contact for the month, upon realizing that we were very ill-equipped for 40 degree weather, took us to this magical room and let us pick any clothes we wanted to borrow for the month.
I have found immense joy in rummaging through clothes and choosing outfits for myself and my team members – some legit warm clothes, some just ridiculous styles intended for a laugh. Pretty soon, I had accumulated so many great outfits we decided we would dress up for dinner one night and take some awkward family photos:

take 1

take 2

take 3
(sorry about the bad lighting – we took them in the poorly lit sewing room)
So, yep. This is my family for the next 9 1/2 months. More awkward family photos to come.
