This is the story of the days January 6 & 7, 2011 for Team Tabula Rasa in Eldoret, Kenya. It may be kinda long, but please read since this is all how crazy God is working over here.
The past 2 days we had been going house to house praying, encouraging, bringing the Word of God, praying for healing over several people, and several other encounters/activities. I literally go around to people I don’t know and ask them if they know Jesus and other questions. It’s very odd at first, since I and many others in the U.S. NEVER go about doing such things. So, this is really good for me in practicing and walking in what God’s told us to do…Spread the Good News.
So, on Thursday we set out. We first came upon several women washing clothes in a low lying valley area. Christina had several good words for the women, and after a little bit one of them said that she’d like to accept Jesus into her life. I was kind of thrown back, because how casual she asked in the environment we were in. We all prayed over them, and it was amazing to be there and bring another Sister to the Kingdom of God.
A little bit longer we move on to talk with several others. Mostly women and children, since the women were washing clothes and everywhere we go Children come from a great distance to meet us. We were able to have great conversations with the people and got to learn about them and some of their backgrounds. I myself was able to have a good conversation and pray for a man named John.
We moved on, crossing the railroad tracks and stopped at another house where Taylor brought the Word of Faith to the woman. On a side note, most of the people we meet are “believers” so it is greatly encouraging for me to meet and support them by prayer in any way. After the ladies house we moved on a few hundred more yards across the barren/rocky/dirty landscape to another house.
At this house we met a young man who asked us “Where does SIN come from?”. It’s a great question for any Christian to ask for those who may not really understand. We got to explain as best as possible so he fully understood. We began to pray for him, and things got a little weird. A man came from around the house and greeted Jennilee (who was sitting down at the time). Later, she explained how an overcoming of Fear and Terror came over her.
Christina went over and told the man to stop being in her face…since the guy from what I understood was very close to her and apparently close to her face. A minute later the man began messing with Amy and Christina, this is All happening while the rest of us are praying for the young man. When I say “messing with” I mean he kept asking questions, being loud, and getting very close.
Taylor came in, grabbed the man by the shoulder and led him away. While we were praying I overhear Taylor ask the man “What do you mean We?”. Yea, what the heck? The man was seriously demon-possessed. He said God was a Liar, referred himself as We when Taylor asked him his name, when asked certain questions about him he said “doesn’t matter”, and several other Really Odd things about this guy (his eyes were pitch black too)…other than him being ridiculously drunk.
We eventually moved on, and Taylor couldn’t continue talking with this odd man. We came across a family who was dressed in traditional clothing and beads for us. It was very neat to see with our own eyes and get to talk to the people. Along with the people was a boy who I will say had a disability. He could hear and understand everything fine…even English. His left hand was in a position that couldn’t be moved without extreme pain, his left foot was sort of “locked” too so he sort of hobbled while walking, and he was unable to speak (he made some grunting noises but no words).
We prayed over that, but to no luck for any signs of healing or improvement. The boy and his father were grateful for us to come and pray for him though. So, we then headed back for Lunch…Yea Still one day. Whew!! That night we prayed for God to grant us power and ability for Healing, since we had done so for Many people in the past few days yet were unable to see any significant health improvement.
So, apparently all the days seem to be mushing together since our days are ridiculously long and weary with all the praying. However, it’s great and I’m enjoying all of it. The next day after lunch is where I’ll pick up the story.
We head out to a woman’s house of whom attended the church we work along with this month. This walk was heck of a lot further than anywhere we’ve been to thus far. When we were drawing near to the house up in the hills west of Eldoret, a man met us in the road asking for us to come in to his house and pray for his wife. We couldn’t at the time since we were expected at the ladies house.
We sang songs, prayed, Andrew brought a Word for the family, and overall was a great time. The hospitality of the Kenyans who we visit are so welcoming and overall pleased to have us in their homes. We began to head back and remembered to stop by the house. One of the guys who was with us was already in the house praying from what we heard. We come into the house and a woman was sitting on a couch with her mother.
We find out that the woman (Irene) gave birth to a child 3 weeks ago. However, the child died at birth, and the woman had severe pain around her right hip area. It hurt so much that she couldn’t walk, move much, or even sleep well due to the pain. So, once again we prayed for healing. We maybe prayed for about 3 minutes and asked to see how she was or if there was any improvement.
She had the look of confusion on her face and said that the pain was gone. She stood up on her own, bended her leg at the hip joint, walked around outside, and was completely Healed! We didn’t feel any sort of powerful energy while we prayed, but it really worked! I kid you Not! I kinda looked at the others like “Did that just happen?”. It was Incredible!
A few days later we went back to see how she was, since we still had that thought in our mind that she was going to be in pain and she wasn’t really healed. Irene, was there at her house outside attending some chores…Still Completely Healed!
God gives us Christians His power. Whether, it’s healing, visions, tongues, prophecy, and like 20 other types of Gifts of the Spirit. Another Huge part to praying in the spirit and specifically asking for Healing is FAITH. How is something going to happen through God if You don’t believe At All?
