So some of you guys have been asking me about finances. Most of you think I am crazy for doing something like this when I have over 40,000 dollars in debt from law school. Well, all I can say is, you are probably right. 🙂 I have been praying a lot and spending a lot of time talking with loan people trying to get my loans deferred until I get back. God willing, I think its going to work out.
As for the trip, I need to raise about 14,300 dollars which will cover all my expenses for 11 months. That includes food, lodging, transportation, airfare, and the supplies I will need for the ministry activities along the way. I have been advised that the food budget amounts to about 2 dollars a day and that I will probably lose about 20 lbs. That’s pretty cheap, considering I would probably spend more than double that if I were at home just with rent, food, utilities, gas, car insurance, cell phone, etc.
I am supposed to have most of the money raised by the time I leave in January, but can be supported weekly or monthly if that’s convenient for people. For whatever reason, I have a real sense of calm about this whole finances issue and despite the short notice (most people have been fund raising for upwards of a year), I am completely confident that God will provide somehow. I therefore strongly encourage you to not give out of guilt because I am your friend and that’s what you think you are supposed to do. Pray about it and listen to God and He will direct you. Frankly, I would rather have your heartfelt prayers than your money. (Though that would be awesome if I can have both!!)
Any amount, no matter how small, makes a huge difference. Even one dollar a day can really add up when we are talking about 11 months. Thanks in advance for all your prayers and support and I look forward to seeing how God will work through this experience.
(Oh, and if I fail to make the payment deadline, I will update you on how Macgyver’s bank robbing technique worked out).
