Out of the nowhere, God gave me a very clear picture of what I’m supposed to do when I return to America.  Though I’d been praying about it for the last 8 months with no new developments, God implanted an unexpected vision of what my career/ministry will entail.  Its funny how God works. Despite my natural inclination to plan everything out and make the most logical decision, all my big choices in life come as random thoughts that pop in my head.  These thoughts are often unprompted and for whatever reason, I feel complete comfort in pursuing them regardless of what rational considerations might otherwise dictate.  I can now appreciate that all these years, this has been God’s way of getting through to me–circumventing my need to process and plan and skipping straight to the warm, fuzzy-feeling punchline in my heart.

There were 3 Slovakian people who prayed over me that God would tell me His plan for my future.  I have no idea what they said, but it must have been something good. The next day, while listening to a completely unrelated sermon, an unprecedented thought surfaced…

If I could invent my dream job that includes all my best talents and the activities I enjoy most it would include the following: Teaching, College Students/atmosphere, Leading, Mentoring/Discipling/Empowering, Administrative Planning, Forming Relationships, Creating Fun Environments, Experiencing New Things and most importantly, Sharing God’s Love.

So here is my vision.  I want to be a Christian Missions Professor and lead a mission trip each winter and summer at a Christian university or college.  For the semester preceding the trip, I would teach a course in preparation for that semester’s mission trip.  Specifically, the course would consist of four basic goals.  First, I would teach the students about having a broader world view.  Second, I would try to form a genuine community in the class.  Through having a small class of 20-40, strategic lessons, and substantial 1 on 1 time and small group time with students, I believe I can teach them how to become a non self-centered, vulnerable, loving community with other Christians.  Third, I’d prepare the class logistically for the country and our specific ministry in that location .  Last and most importantly, I would try to impart what I’ve learned about God and what a relationship with Him can (and should) look like.  Although the students might join the class expecting to mostly help others (assuming they are perfectly fine), the primary purpose of the class would be to transform the students.  All the good that comes out of the actual mission trip for the local inhabitants would merely be a windfall.

While on campus, I would hope to form lasting friendships with the students and would love to serve as a counselor, whether in name or merely as a de facto professor to those who I befriend.  I’d hope to be one of those professors that students would remember fondly as the one who changed the course of their life for the better.  I understand now that I am willing to say and do the hard things for the betterment of others and as a result of this mission trip, I appreciate more how to love and meet people where they are at while helping them grow into their potential.

Just writing this blog has made me excited.  I can’t describe how much joy being surrounded by impressionable people brings me.  Not to mention the fact that I’d love to be the professor who does all the things the students do–playing sports at the gym, eating at the cafeteria, etc.  God is awesome in how he raises us up and allows our purpose in life to compliment our personality and the things that bring us joy.

You guys reading this blog!  I need your help here too.  I feel as if my first job is going to come as a result of a contact formed via someone reading this blog.  So if you know anyone who works at a Christian university or college (in any state or province), I would love to speak with you further.  Send me an email at [email protected].  First pray about it and perhaps interview me via skype or email.  Then, if you feel like I am worthy of a recommendation, I ask that you please recommend me to your friend.  Especially to those of you who have been loyal blog readers, you probably have a better idea of me than the people who knew be before I left on this race, so you can attest to my character.  Below I will list some bullets of my qualifications to help “sell me” to your contacts.

Warning: the following isn’t particularly humble, so feel free to end your reading here if you don’t know anyone in the Christian education business.
