Greetings!
Welcome to my journey with the World Race! My name is Brian Joseph and here’s my story.
I was born in Richmond, VA. My parents moved from Guyana, South America to the United States in their late teenage years. I never had the perfect family dynamic, but I love them for all that we are, and all that we aren’t.I have three beautiful older sisters (Leslyn,Mellisa, and Ruth), 3 nephews (Calvin, Jamir, and Latryelle), one neice (Amya), and grew up with my mother(Patty). My father also lives overseas (Lambert).
Life is real.I’ve been known for many things and I’ve seen a lot of things. Some people know me for having “good hair” (shoutout to my mom), high school track, academics, my service on VCU campus, a goofy guy, hardworking and the list would go on. There’s a lot of things that people have seen on the outside, but I’m here to invite you into my life. My real life. I’ve seen my loved ones cry. I’ve lost loved family and friends. I’ve had the world crumble down on me before. I’ve made mistakes and I’ve learned many lessons.
This past year has been one of the roughest years I’ve experienced in my lifetime. It’s crazy to imagine that just a year ago my families’ home was on fire leaving us without a permanent home for 6 months. We went from the comfort of a home, to celebrating Christmas in a hotel. Throughout the journey a close friend of mine was hospitalized, another took his life, and my grades began to slip away with my desire to complete school. I was mentally drained and at my lowest low behind closed doors. This is the silent struggle that nobody would see. But as my priorities began to shift, something changed.
God stepped in. He planted a seed, when I was buried by the dirt of my problems and allowed me to see the brighter side. I still had life, my family left the fire unscathed, and I now had the opportunity to grow closer with them, my closest friends, and most importantly the man above. God has purposed each individual to go through certain life storms in order to prepare them for something greater. So how do we identify what that something greater is?
Which brings me to this point. The opportunity of a lifetime. I’ve been working hard towards living for what God has called me to do. A close friend of mine, Donald, sent me a text message and told me apply to World Race. Although I thought it was a long shot, I went ahead and applied. I interviewed at 11:34AM this past Tuesday and was accepted at 4:26PM the same day. It’s crunchtime! I will be graduating May 9th from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Major in Psychology and Minors in Biology/Chemistry and pursuing the World Race which I believe that God has placed on my heart. As I take this leap of faith, I ask that you join me, share my story, pray with me and allow for me to pray with you as well as we take this journey together to touch hearts across the world.
Welcome to The World Race.
