Certainly one of the challenges of The World Race is fundraising. Many of us Racers have been scrambling for ideas on how to raise the necessary funds, myself included. In fact, I don’t think I’ve endured this much brainstorming since the 5th grade! Fortunately there’s a lot of idea-sharing going on between team members. So I thought I’d let you in on some of my own methods for reaching my financial goals…
Obviously a key resource is people. People are the reason this trip exists, and people are the beneficiaries of this trip’s efforts. With that said, I would strongly encourage you to make a contribution towards the cost of this effort. Keep in mind that Adventures In Missions is a non-profit, and you will be eligible for a tax deduction through your contribution. More importantly, keep in mind that I, along with all my squad mates, have put our trust in God to provide for us here! This isn’t the annual vacation your coworkers talk about, nor is it like a Carnival cruise. This is the front line people! We’ve volunteered ourselves to live out of a backpack and sleep on the ground for almost a year! I can’t tell you how excited I am to be a part of this, being used as a tool for the direct benefit of our Lord and fellow humans’ spirits! And I wouldn’t be able to do it at all without your help, so thank you.
So what about my fundraising activities? Well, Austin is proving to be a great location for raising awareness and peaking interest. I am ordering numerous custom made t-shirts to be offered for sale, the funds from which will make a direct contribution to the cost of the trip. Additionally, I’ll continue hand-making custom bracelets derived from bicycle spokes. These are pretty stinking cool if I do say so myself, so you should grab one for an easy $10! But the fun doesn’t stop there, no sir (or mam). Next week I am beginning an outdoor movie series in the courtyard where I live. The movies will be free to the community (aw how nice) but I will be charging for a meal ticket :] Furthermore, I’ll begin hosting a weekly Pancake Social where participants (eaters of delicious pancakes) can leave donations. And of course, I’m open to suggestions.
One more thing, if you are kind enough to donate more than $200, you will receive your very own custom made t-shirt of my own design, a super neat Spokelet, and a public mention of your name as a sponsor (if that’s okay with you). Please keep praying for me and my team, and I’ll keep you posted here.
