We’ve been staying at a Youth With A Missions (YWAM) base outside
of Brisbane where there were over 100 Discipleship Training Students (DTS) that
we had the privilege of living in community with. Through ministering alongside them, we learned so much more and were blessed to join in lectures and their
community worship. We are all growing daily in our walks and soaking up
everything along the way!
At the YWAM base
we served in a variety of ways: hospitality, kitchen clean up crew, serving our
contact any way that we could and painting the interior of a house on the base.
There was joy in all of it; in painting a wall, baking for a memorial service,
and yes even scrubbing dishes!
We also got to serve in the community nearby, visiting an elderly
assisted living center. There we were able to bring joy in such simple ways
that were so humbling. Just playing a game of bingo, sharing a conversation,
playing cards and singing worship music brought tears of joy to their eyes and
ours.
You could feel God’s presence there. You could feel God’s
joy in all of it, and it was beautiful every time I saw it through God’s eyes.
Brian got to pray over the staff there and lift them up in their struggles,
it’s amazing what prayer can do to strengthen us when we are weak.
‘The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are
God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs-heirs of God and
co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may
also share in his glory.’ Romans 8:16-17 NIV
