This month we are involved with facing the issues of human
trafficking in the sex industry. One of Thailand’s biggest economies is the sex
industry, bringing in millions of dollars a year. Girls are slaves, being sold
to have sex.
In 2007, it was reported that girls as young as 3 where sold
into brothels (a place to buy a girl of your choice for a night). The younger girls are sold as a premier price. It is sick. The girls are salves and there
is a high demand, 60% of white males coming through Bangkok airport are here to
buy sex.
This is a breeding ground for the devil to destroy lives.
Many of us ask questions like: why does the government allow
it, why not buy the girls out, are they held as slaves without choice to come
and go, how do the girls get in this position?
The girls are usually sold by their families for a high
price. The families are strapped by poverty or addiction to drugs or even
blindly deceived that their child is going to the city for a better life to
work and send money home. In Thai culture you respect your elders, so much that
they stay as slaves to respect their parents. Trying to teach them that God and
their self worth need to be honored is a hard task. As well as, most Thai’s are
Buddhist, which means they believe in karma. The girls are told that they must
have done something horrible in their past life to be in such a horrific
situation. There is a lot of shame and rejection from society towards girls in
the sex industry. Buying girls from the brothel to get them out is difficult
for the above reasons, but also if you pay the brothel, they just use that
money to go find other girls.
It brings you to tears thinking and seeing how so many girls
are trapped in the sex industry. Infected with diseases/AIDS and rejected by
society and their families.
So our contact this month is a home that prevents girls from
being sold as slaves. God spoke to him to remember Nhu (one girl in particular sold into slavery). He saves girls being sold as slaves. He is being obedient by
having 7 homes in 5 countries and still expanding. As our contact says, rather
then try to save one girl at a time in slavery why not go to the mouth of the
river and save them from ever experiencing the pain, shame, and horror of the
sex industry.
They build relationships with surrounding villages that
notice the factors that make the girls very likely to be sold into slavery-
divorce in the family, poverty, or families that have their heart set on
selling their children. They offer to pay for everything the girls would
normally get- food, health, shelter, clothes, and education. The
families can choose a home to keep them safe or sell them into slavery.
We are working on the property to help get their new home
set up. Such as digging ditches to run plumbing into their home, putting fences up to
keep the girls and the animals safe, clearing weeds and brush to give them a
yard to play in. The best part is we get to hang out with the girls after
school and on the weekend.
These girls are incredible. They are amazing with an
incredible innocence, a huge smile, loving hearts, and an incredible love and
boldness for the one living true God.
We are blessed to support a home that shows God’s love.
Thank you to all who have helped get us out here and be part of God’s love and
mercy.
Please pray for girls in this industry already, the men who
are hurting and helping Satan destroy lives, and for the girls who live in
these homes.
