I think more then anything God calls us to love. Love our spouses, our family, our friends, our co-workers, our leaders, strangers, and even our enemies. It is easy to love the lovable. It is not easy to love the unlovable, the difficult. I am sure we can all think of someone you know that is difficult to love. Being in Thailand, I am even called to love the men that are buying girls for a night, to parents that are selling their kids into human trafficking. Love everyone.
Love is difficult.
One big question I have been exploring is what does love look like. One of the biggest things I have learned is that love can look different depending on the person and the situation. Sometimes you need tough love and sometimes you need gentle love. Love is not about you, its not about what you deserve or what you feel is right. The people who are difficult to love are the ones that need love the most. They are hurt, confused, lost, stressed, caught in lies from satan etc.
Love is: serving them, picking them up when they feel down, telling them those tough things that need to change in them, praying for them, holding them accountable, encouraging them to go further, disciplined, walking with them in their mess, laughter, silence, sacrificing, standing up for yourself, letting cultural things go, and standing up for God’s morals. Love is many things.
I think most importantly you build a relationship first, hopefully build trust and respect. Which can be very difficult to swallow your pride, thinking you are right, and be silent in the harsh truth.
Then taking the next steps to speak the truth and not let it go, don’t just tolerate people, help them grow and push into loving them.
The right word at the wrong time is the wrong word. Pray to God for His timing.
We are the tangible and physical voice of the living God, which is also why so many are turned away from God. We hurt others when we try to love the way we think is best. We need to be in constant pray with God, for His voice and His timing to be revealed.
I pray that God takes away any bitterness, anger, disgust, and lets you see others the way He see’s them.
I pray we can all show God’s love.
