There has been a lot of movement in the past two weeks here in Guatemala… the moving of the Holy Spirit, moving to a new room, moving, or rather, the spreading of sickness among my teammates, moving a van with my muscles up a muddy road, and moving onto new ministry opportunities. One afternoon in particular I woke up with a lot of back pain. For about an hour, moving out of bed seemed impossible. Fortunately, we had the afternoon off that day and as time passed, my back began to improve. After hours of reading and writing, I was ready to change activities. My cautious side told me that “I just need to remain here and rest my back” but then I asked God, “What do you want me to do right now?” Little did I know that the rest of my day would be spent rushing up a mountain in search of a teammate (who was actually never missing) and finding three of my other teammates along with some locals who actually needed my help getting a van “unstuck.” For two hours the five of us pushed and pulled the van until we eventually succeeded in getting it out of the mud. Any time you mix friends, two languages, physical labor, mud, and free afternoon to help someone in need there are bound to be some Kodak moments and great memories.
Even on a day off or when I’m not feeling physically able, God can and is able to use me in crazy and unexpected ways. In every situation, good or bad, He allows me to find joy. My God never changes. My circumstances may vary but He doesn’t change and He never will. While there has been a lot of movement around me, my God remains steady… His love, mercy, joy, and countless other indescribable qualities never change. He remains present in times when I’m absent. He remains joyful in times when I’m not feeling it. He’s always there for me, even when I’m undeserving.
Ministry details: I love the ministry we are a part of right now. The majority of our time each day is spent visiting the homes of our local widows and praying over them, providing new stove parts or any other form of help they need. The goal is to just love them and show them that God loves them and they are deserving of His comfort. I look forward to posting some photos of the van adventure and pictures of some of the work we are doing in the homes of widows. Stay tuned and pray for us as we continue on with this ministry!
