this is a post that has been 2 months in the making…

When I was in Swaziland for the first time in July (at El Shaddai orphanage outside of Mbabane) our team was INCREDIBLY blessed to meet a group of people on a journey called “Steps Over Swaziland”. There were 30 volunteers that took 11 days to walk across the entire country (128 miles) and one of them was even doing it with a broken foot! Incredible. They finished their journey at the soccer field near El Shaddai so we were able to meet them and join in walking their final mile. They had stopped at various orphan care points along their way and provided food, clothing, medical care, HIV/AIDS education, school vouchers and uniforms to the people they met. Amazing

Their entire journey was actually part of a bigger picture, a documentary called “Never Neverland”. This is film is taking a serious look at the problems in Swaziland and calling on people to help. I’ve touched no the subject before, but Swaziland is a country being devastated by HIV/AIDS. If the projections are correct there will soon be NO adults living in this beautiful little kingdom. I know that there are orphans everywhere in the world, and sometimes it’s hard to make the statistics feel personal, but folks, this is personal to me. These “statistics” in the documentary are children. And I know some of them. I spent a month living with them and loving them. Their lives are a part of this tragedy and there ARE things that you can do to help.

Please watch this short trailer below. I don’t know when the film is being released yet, but I do know that that orphans and widows are in the center of God’s heart and as Christians isn’t that where WE are supposed to be as well?

We met Caroline (one of the volunteers in the video and one of the founders of YouMe Clothing, a great organization that you should take a look at!) and the Deputy Prime Minister of Swaziland while we were at El Shaddai, and these are two people who take this cause seriously! Their hearts are broken for the people of Swaziland. These are beautiful and wonderful people and they need education, they need love, they need Jesus.
