I’ve received information on our first location and wanted to share with you some of our plans and details that we received about our first location.
Colombia
Sep. 12 – Oct. 6
Logistics
- We will depart from Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, September 11.
- After a days worth of travel, we will arrive in Medellin, Colombia on Tuesday, September 12.
- This will be our only time of ministry with our entire squad. My squad consists of 38 people, excluding our leaders, and my team consists of 7.
- The type of location that Medellin is is a city. And Manatiales is a squatter community outside of the city of Medellin. it is the second largest camp of displaced persons in Colombia. This is where we will be doing most of our ministry
- Our transportation from the airport and around the city from place to place will be by bus.
- We will be staying in a teaching institute at our ministry site in Medellin. This is good because the teaching institute has full facilities meaning run water and possibly dormitory style accommodation (will find out for sure in the near future)
- Food will be prepared by our host at the location we are staying at
Ministry
- Our Ministry vision is Holistic Ministry. To take part in restoring individuals and communities
- The Summary of what our ministry is encompasses are recovery programs, feeding programs, homeschool, spiritual formation, micro enterprise, and also homeless shelters
- We will be doing ministry in Manaitales. Manaitales is about 20 minutes driving from the foundation. It is the second largest camp of internally displaced persons in Colombia. We have a feeding program there and VBS activities on Saturdays and on Sundays we bus the kids here to church. The program serves 150 kids, many of whom are unschooled.
- The idea would be to focus our church attention on this community over the course of the month to make a deeper community impact and build relationships with the parents of the children in our programs.
- Hoping to build relationships with all local people and make a difference in the lives of those we encounter
Community/Culture/About the Location
- We will adapt to the culture to strive to have the most impact possible by not standing out
- Good news is that the tap water in this location is clean and drinkable
- The location we are staying in is safe because we will be staying in a gate community where there is a compound which is a school I believe
- We will know more about the culture and the little things once we’ve arrived and our host is able to notify us (will notify you all when I can)
Just a little bit of information to give to those of you that are curious. And also some specifics for those of you that like to pray specifically!
