Ok bear with me. This is a LONG story, but [I think] it’s
worth it!

So, about 1 month before leaving for the World Race, I was
praying beside my bed and God told me to have my students [I’m a substitute
teacher] write letters to the children that we meet on the World Race. So I thought
about it, and…two weeks later, God reminded me: HAVE THE KIDS WRITE LETTERS! Ok,
ok! I asked some schools that I was connected with, if they would be interested
in writing letters to students that would be in different countries. Specifically,
I asked Christopher Dock Mennonite High School to have their Spanish classes
write letters. And they did!! I think almost 80 of them!

We got to Nicaragua and went to the village that we would
work with that month. Right next to the
church, there is a high school! [It’s a Christian school…the only one in the whole
village] This got me all excited, because I’ve been waiting 4 months for this! The next time we
were at the village, I brought along the letters. I notice that there is a note
from the Spanish teacher, asking if the students that receive the letters can
respond. So, I asked the Principal if the students could write response
letters, and she agreed! I handed out all the letters to the students and they were
so excited to get them 🙂

Then the Principal of the school asked if we can support the
school financially for supplies. We have a team budget, so we told her we would
have to ask out team leader. But she clarified herself and said how she would
like to partner with the SCHOOL, not us. Haha! That was good…and GENIOUS!! As soon
as she said that, ideas started to fly through my mind!
The students write response letters. We make a video about the school,
students, and the principal asking for partnership. Both schools are now pen
pals and write back and forth during the school year. Christopher Dock
financially helps the school in Nicaragua with school supplies and maybe even
scholarships. Christopher Dock’s Spanish class could also take trips down to Nicaragua
to the school and visit them and do service projects. Maybe even the school in
Nicaragua could send students up to Christopher Dock to study or something. The
churches could even partner together.
WOW!! So many possibilities!!

I’m not going to make a long story longer, so there were a
lot of different ‘events’ this month, that kept me from going to the school to
pick up response letters. This made me a little sad, but I knew God was in
control. We had one week left to get the letters, but bad news bears: it was
holy week, so the kids had off of school. Whomp, whomp, whooooomp [loser noise].
And we were leaving early Monday morning, so this was No bueno! (in English…No
good!) This meant that those good ideas and possibilities would not happen. Sad
day.

I went to help buy the bus tickets to El Salvador and there
are no openings for Monday…so we had to leave TUESDAY morning!!!!!! Praise the
Lord!! My mind started rolling with ideas again.

To sum things up: we went to the school today (Monday morning)
to pick up the letters. Some of the students had them written, but some forgot.
And they were all taking exams, so they could not write them. [Exams right
after holy week?! Aka: Easter. WHAT?!] Anyways, our contact, that drives us
back and forth, said that he can go there later and pick up the papers in the
afternoon and drop them off to me!! Wow, again, I’m
surprised!

This is a classroom in Nicaragua.

So there it is! I have some pictures now, and there will be
a video later. This all happened, because of obedience. Obedience to a simple request. It sounds
sort of like the lunchbox story. Hmmmmm 😉

These are some letters!!

Please keep this in your prayers. This opportunity has SO MUCH potential. I’ll keep you update on what
happens with these letters!

Spanish students at Christopher Dock Mennonite High School:
THANK YOU!! Mr. Miller [Spanish teacher]: THANK YOU!!

So to you: Listen. Trust. Obey.
