I can’t believe it’s month 10 already. I’m going home NEXT MONTH. It’s just a little bit crazy.
We have arrived in Santiago de Chile, where we are supporting an orphanage, a couple of schools, and a home for scholarly women pursuing professional careers, which specializes in giving MUSIC and Sunday school classes to the community. It is a high-risk community, with backgrounds of abuse, neglect, gangs, and lack of education. Kids are so focused on work and food that they could sometimes really care less about their grades. So the classes at the school–where I am helping in Spanish grammar–can be interesting. But the kids are nice and I’m adding some strange western culture to the mix. Most people around here are nominally Catholic, meaning that they believe in God and the Virgin Mary, but are not devout, and do not have a personal relationship with God.

With the music classes at the women’s home, where we are staying, I am helping with teaching guitar. If you are a musician–Latin America’s music theory is based on fixed “do,” and chords are taught solely on solfeggio. I am not used to this, but it’s fun. They also don’t use picks.
We played games with the children at the orphanage today. They seemed to really appreciate people spending time with them. Some of those kids we also teach at the school.

I love this place where we stay. We are learning and assisting in the green movement and renewable energy. We have hot showers, a Wal-Mart a block away, a bunch of sisters, and two dogs to love on.
Please pray for patience and discernment in adding value to these ministries. Please also pray for focus and growth. I’ve been having a hard time lately.
