My name is Brenda Benson and I live in Cadillac, Michigan. I am currently 21 years old. There are 8 kids in my family, and I am the second oldest. We are very close in age – the oldest is currently 22 and the youngest 14. Add to that growing up on a dairy farm…

and being homeschooled and you get a pretty close-knit family. We have our rough spots too, but I wouldn’t trade these crazies for the world!
my family, plus Naty, minus Megan (right) who’s in Mississippi!

I have attended the same church since I was 1 ½ years old, accepted Christ as my Savior when I was 6, and did my best to follow all the “rules”, like pray and read your Bible everyday, etc., until I was about 12. From age 12 until now there have been many things that have happened in my life and with my family that really have demonstrated God’s love to me and have served to deepen my dependence on, and trust in, God. There are many others, but this is the short list that serves to remind me of His never ending faithfulness on those days when I am discouraged: Close friends and family members have died tragically, but He has seen me through. My immediate family has been spared numerous times from accidents that could have been fatal. I have experienced God’s healing in my life, and in the life of friends. I have gone through very dry periods in my relationship with Christ and He is always faithful to pull me through.

My Father has also placed in my life certain relationships and people who have been faithful in bringing me closer to Christ, and it has been in the last 4 years especially that He has brought me to a place of absolute surrender to Him. Not that I don’t constantly take things back, but He is always asking me to lay more at His feet. I have given him my life to use as He sees fit, and this is just one more step on the journey of following Him. I think the best way to describe my life is as a “Great Adventure” (thank you Steven Curtis Chapman):

Saddle up your horses we’ve got a trail to blaze
Through the wild blue yonder of God’s amazing grace
Let’s follow our leader into the glorious unknown
This is a life like no other – this is The Great Adventure

Come on get ready for the ride of your life
Gonna leave long faced religion in a cloud of dust behind
And discover all the new horizons just waiting to be explored
This is what we were created for
