My blog name is Living the Adventure. That’s what everyone sees first when they visit my website. What does that mean, though, to live the Adventure? To me, it means that every part of my life is lived in submission to the L-rd J-sus Chr-st and because of that all of life is an adventure with Him.
Currently I am living out that adventure by traveling the world for 11 months: visiting different cultures, building relationships with the people in those places, working in service to those people in whatever way they need, and building my relationship with G-d as I do all of this. Sometimes it may seem that I am not doing as much as I am being. Being a part of the culture. Being there for people and building relationships. Being here for my teammates and being the best sister I can be to them. Being a lover of G-d and follower of Him.
I have had many discussions with myself about what I expected this year to look like, and I have been having a hard time with the fact that we are doing a lot of sightseeing and not so much work, especially here in Israel. Just the other day it hit me, though, that workers in different countries become a part of the culture. They live there, do their shopping and cooking, and visit their friends just like we’re doing. They build relationships and enjoy life while still serving our L-rd. Outside the States, people don’t work 24/7. They are much more relaxed about everything and, frankly, I am enjoying that as much as I feel like I should be doing more. We are only here a short time and we are doing what the “long-termers” need us to do to help them out (currently that means spending 3 hours every evening teaching English classes), but when they tell us to make sure we see all we can while we’re here and take time to rest and refresh ourselves in our L-rd, that is just as important, if not more important, as constantly being busy.
In essence, even though we are in each place for the “short-term” we are currently being blessed beyond measure by a host who realizes that a year is somewhat “long-term” work and is enabling us to have the refreshment we need to continue in the harder work that we will face in the coming months. So, that is what my current adventure looks like.
What about your adventure? Where has G-d been taking you lately? What is He speaking to you right now? I’d love to hear from you!
Much love, Brenda
