My first post dealt with a lot of broad and general questions but since then I have had a handful of other questions thrown at me. These are much more specific and more fun for me to talk about!

  • “So are you just gonna be camping for a whole year?”
    • No!! There will be a number of days that we do spend in tents and outdoors but the vast majority of the night will be spent indoors at a hostel or with a host family. Staying with a host family is something that I am extremely excited about! Meeting people and forming relationships with people from all over the world is going to an incredible experience.

  • “What are you most nervous for?”
    • Something that I am nervous about is the language barrier. Throughout the whole trip, I will be exposed to dozens of languages and I am going to need to learn to communicate without using words. We will have people with us that can speak the given language but often times we will be on our own. I ran into this issue over the summer when I was in Europe for two months, I learned to communicate based on gestures and actions. Being in a group of 40 other people will lessen the stress but many times it will be a smaller group of close to 5 people venturing off, that would be something that I am most nervous about.

  • “What does a normal day look like on the World Race?”
    • Honestly, a normal day won’t exist! Each day is going to look different based on where we are needed. Some days are going to be packed full with teaching kids, VBS, community construction, diving deeper into the culture, forming relationships, visiting orphanages, etc. While some days can be pretty laid back. Things like playing with the local kids, hiking, and praying. Some days we will need to hike 10-15 miles to get to the next village. Overall, each day will different than the last. I will keep you updated on social media and this blog throughout the whole trip.

  • “So you graduated college, and you’re not going to use your degree?”
    • I view this as a great opportunity to use my business degree on the field. International travel can change a person, I know no doubt that this trip is going to change how I see the world and greater the understand for what Gods purpose is for me. This adventure is going to better equip me to carry about what I see God has in store for me in the future.

  • “How much does this whole thing cost?”
    • Total cost is $17,700, I know that’s a lot of money but it provides a great opportunity to see God provide. I know he will put it on certain peoples hearts to help me raise the funds. I am also working my tail off to support myself in this journey! If I would pay for it all myself, trust me I would! What this covers is-
      • Training Camp- Training before the trip
      • Field Support- Getting supplies and supporting local contacts
      • World Race Development Program
      • Administration Fees- Paying the staff that takes care of every detail of our trip
      • Intercontinental Travel
      • Lodging
      • Food
      • Long Distance Travel
      • Misc. Supplies
    • What is not covered?
      • Required gear (backpack, tent, etc.), travel to and from training camp, vaccinations, spending money, and travel home once done with the World Race.
