Teammate Spotlight: Jasmine Evans

My final (best for last, right?) teammate to spotlight is the one and only and Jasmine Evans!

[Also, just a quick update, I’ve been in Honduras this past month in Valle de Angeles, a small town close to capital wayyyy up in the mountains, but these past few days we’ve actually been having our squad wide “debrief” in Omoa, Honduras where the whole squad gets together with our leaders and mentors and just kind of debriefs and rests….but this debrief was special in that there were team changes happening. So Jasmine is not actually on my team any more (sad day!), and but I do have a few new teammates who I’ll have to update you all on later!] Either way, I definitely still wanted to get Jasmine in there first, and so without further ado, the one, the only, Jasmine Nicole Evans 😀

AGE: 23

NATIONALITY: USA

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Jasmine is a daredevil if there ever was one. Girl is crazy adventurous. A bunch of people from our squad went volcano boarding last month (yes. Essentially sledding down a giant volcano), and she went the fastest out of everyone, boys or girls.
  • She loves to jump off of things. Slides, cliffs, trucks, docks, balconies, anything, really.
  • She’d rather have the mountains and the lakes and the cabins than the beach and the ocean.
  • Girl is super artistic. When there’s something artsy that our team gets assigned to, we’re always like, “Jasmineeeee, so what are we doing with this?” Drawing Christmas decorations, painting cement lawn ornaments, hanging streamers, making videos, taking pictures…she does it all!
  • She has two brothers and one sister, and she has some of the funniest/craziest sibling stories from their childhood. Let’s just say there were a lot of injuries growing up in the Evans household.

THINGS I LOVE ABOUT JASMINE:

  • She is a footballer! Foot….baller. And she balls hard. She and I have been teaching a football academy for the local kids here in Honduras and she definitely whips those kids into shape.
  • She sings like a little angel! When we’re singing as a group (which I’m telling you, happens all the time), people are always passing me the microphone and I’m always just passing it right on to Jasmine.
  • She’s one of our lovely logistics coordinators (meaning she helps to transport 40ish people from point A to point B every month). We appreciate her work so much! I don’t know where we’d be without her. Literally. Who knows what country we would have wandered off to without her logistics skills.
  • She’s super strong, and she can wheel-barrow all the dirt that I dig up practically as easy as the boys can.

FAVORITE MEMORY: Okay, so like with everyone, there’s a lot…but one from month 1 in Panama definitely sticks out. Jasmine hadn’t been feeling well for a few days and so she hadn’t really eaten and she was pretty hungry. On this fateful night, we were having a movie night with one of our awesome hosts Andrea, and let’s just say Imago Dei had gone hard on getting snacks together for the event. The snacks started out pretty equally distributed all over the room, but by the end of the movie, pretty much every bag of chips and bowl of popcorn and pack of cookies and chocolate and candy had somehow made it’s way over to Jasmine and I who were sitting on the corner of the bed. Not sure how it happened, but then someone snapped a picture of us hoarding all the snacks! Caught in the act!

Funny? Okay, so maybe it was one of those things you had to be there for.

FUN FACTS:

  • Jasmine has a certain fascination with bugs. In Panama, it was the tarantula. In Nicaragua, it was the giant ants carrying like 17 times their own body weight down the sidewalk. Here in Honduras, we’ve become obsessed with hunting down all the spiders at night with our headlamps.
  • Jasmine once spent foreverrrr searching for the perfect pair of sunglasses and finally found them in Nicaragua and then one day we went on a hike to a waterfall and I said I’d hold her glasses for her while she went under the waterfall and within 5 seconds I’d dropped them into the creek/river and they were gone. I’m ashamed of myself.
  • One of her favorite colors is definitely probably a mint green.
  • She loves to burst out into random songs in the most random moments. In the back of truck, while making dinner, while walking, while working, anytime really. And I love to join in on them!

So that’s my friend/old 7teammate/fellow spider hunter Jasmine. I hope you find her as awesome as I do!
