Next up in this lovely teammate spotlight series is the wonderful, lovely Heather Snider! (PS We’re now in Honduras and super excited about spending Christmas here! It’s actually cold in the mountains where we are, so we’ll be getting a chilly Christmas, even if it’s not white J)

AGE: 30

NATIONALITY: USA

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

·      Heather has been on a TON of mission trips. I mean a ton. She’s been everywhere! I don’t remember all of the countries…but I do remember Ecuador and Bolivia being in there somewhere

·      She speaks fluent Spanish. I don’t know if she would call it fluent, but I’m calling it fluent. On our first night in Nicaragua, she was asked to preach a sermon with approximately 5 minutes notice. And she nailed it!

·      She’s loves cats just as much as I do (and that’s a lot). She has two kittehs and from all the pictures I’ve seen, they are pre-cious.

·      She also loves the ninos. And she’s great with them, too.

·      She’s a teacher (in her former, pre-race life), and that’s come in super handy on this trip so far seeing as we’ve been teaching in some form every single month of this race.

·      She can sing like a mockingbird (or something else that can sing really good), and I love listening to her! She’s also our resident Spanish song expert/chorus director.

·      She is slightlyyyyy accident prone. She once fell down an entire mountain. True story.

·      She is engaged! She said yes to the world race, even though most people in her position would have told God heck no. Her fiancé’s name is Jason and he’s a lovely man from everything I’ve seen and heard.

·      She LOVES HUGS and I cannot emphasize this enough. She loves them, loves them, loves them. And And even though I’m not a super “huggy” type person, it’s hard not to love them when she’s around. She’s very needy in the hug department

THINGS I LOVE ABOUT HEATHER:

·      The way she loves—and dominates—at cards. She’s always down (to whoop you) at a game of double solitaire or euchre or thirteen or uno or spades, the list goes on and on…

·      That we got to teach English together practically everyday last month in Nicaragua at a local school! It was so much fun to teach with her and play with the kids—she has a super contagious joy that makes her awesome to work around.

·      Her fighting spirit. SO so much has happened to Heather throughout this race—crazy, hard stuff—and she’s still her and her faith in God is still strong. If you ever want to throw up some extra prayers for anyone, prayers for Heather and her family would definitely be appreciated.

·      She’s great at remembering all the things that I normally forget…which may or may not be a lot 😀

·      She has excellent taste in worship music, and seeing her worship makes you want to worship—you can tell that she and God get pretty serious during her worship times.

FAVORITE MEMORY: Singing the “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes,” song to a bunch of first graders in Nandasmo, Nicaragua and laughing hysterically as we sped up and slowed down the rhythm of the song. Hearing them sing it in their broken English was just too precious!

FUN FACTS:

·      Heather loves Spanish worship! And she has a Spanish-English bible and loves Spanish churches and used to go to one, and let’s just say I’d be veryyyy surprised if she didn’t end up in some Spanish speaking country serving the Lord in amazing ways one day.

·      Heather and (double stuff) Oreos—a greater love story than Twilight. Give her the ones with the white-chocolate covered frosting, and you’ll definitely be on your way to winning over her heart.

·      Heather’s going to get a giant tattoo of my face on her arm because she loves me that much (…that may or may not be a joke. It might be…but it definitely might not be).

·      Heather and bugs—let’s just say they love her, but she just doesn’t quite feel the same way.

·      Heather’s getting married in September and you can believe that our entire team is going to be ready to dance it up and reunite in Ohio once that time comes!

That’s all I’ve got for this week! I hope after reading this you love Heather as much as I do. She’s the best!

Until next time,

Bree
