Buenas Dias from Honduras! We’ve been here for about 10 days now but it feels like longer! This month has been already full of blessings and challenges, joy and frustration. This month my team and 3 others are in a small village called La Ermita in Talanga, Honduras working with Heart of Christ ministry (El Corazon de Cristo). Heart of Christ exists to serve victims of abuse and crime, women and children who are victims of rape and incest, and other special crimes victims. Our ministry is varied this month as the teams rotate through 3 different projects: 1) taking care of kids that live in the compound, cooking and cleaning, 2) door to door surveying in the surrounding villages looking for single mothers that qualify for a food assistance program, and 3) construction and painting around the HoC compound. (That’s right, BCC staff – PAINTING. I can’t escape it!!)
So far in Hondo, I’ve seen the two most beautiful and genuine smiles I’ve ever seen on Ivonnia and Erica, two young girls with cerebral palsy that live at Heart of Christ. I’ve witnessed a woman we interviewed in a village surrender her life to Jesus Christ and then turn right around and pray for her 14 year old pregnant daughter and the rest of her family. I’ve grown closer with my team, a group of strong, beautiful, fun, and passionate warriors of Christ that my Lord has lovingly assembled to touch the nations. I’ve seen children, whose stories began in rape and incest, laugh and play in a childhood they may not have had if it wasn’t for not only Heart of Christ ministries, but the heart of The Lord Jesus Christ who loves them wildly and has a plan for their lives. I’ve held my tongue at times I didn’t think I could quench the fire behind it. I’be had the opportunity to pray for families who have just lost loved ones due to the rampant murder and crime in Honduras. I’ve settled into a new sleeping pattern where 8 PM is a late bedtime and rising at 5:30 AM is normal. I’m perfecting the art of bucket showering and how to shave your legs in the strangest of ways/places. I’m adjusting, slowly and painfully, to a life of very little contact with those I love back home (my hardest struggle thus far). I’ve been confronted with theology and concepts at war with my own, and sought scripture to find the truth in God’s complex character. I’ve had Disney sing alongs and dance parties with my squad. I’ve had my first WR intestinal problems and spent 12 hours on the toilet. I’ve danced in the street with little old ladies in a village in the sky. I’ve lived, loved, served, prayed, ministered and laughed. I’ve experienced the Race and what it’s all about. I’m excited for the rest of my journey. The first 2 weeks have been already jam packed with beauty and glory and power and love. So much awaits! Thanks for your prayers and support friends! I will keep you guys posted as I can but internet is scarce! I love you all!
In His Steps,
Bre
