As World Racers we are always busy. We have fundraising to do, jobs to work, and preparations we have to get in order before we leave on our trips, and quite honestly, it gets really overwhelming to da max bro. Like wow. I started this grand adventure at the end of this past March and I can probably count on one hand how many times I actually had an actual day off. It seems like every day since I have started I have done nothing but work. Oh and spoiler alert, not taking a day to just relax kinda starts to wear you down eventually. Who would have thought that to be true right?
So I want to just dedicate this blog entry to just emphasizing and reminding everyone that we need to really have a day of rest. Especially the Racers who are reading this.
I dont know about you all but it seems that every minute of everyday since March has been perfectly calculated and planned out, and it also seems that the ensuing minutes will be planned out as well until I finally do leave for my trip. So if I have stuff to do for every minute of every day, where am I supposed to rest? If I just stop what Im doing for one day, that means Im one day behind for stuff that has to get done! THIS CANT HAPPEN!!!! Well turns out it has to.
While reading through Exodus, when God was giving the Ten Commandments to Moses, I realized that there is one commandment that God was really trying to make clear to Moses and the Israelite’s.
Exodus 20:8-11
Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.
It takes 4 verses and, if you have the NLT version of the Bible, 107 words to make it clear to Moses, the Israelites, and all the other people in the history of the world who have read this passage that we need to all take a day of rest. You know how many verses are used to sum up the commandment against murder? Just one and its pretty straight forward.
Exodus 20:13
“You must not murder.”
Boom. Four words.
Living in a society where every day seems rushed it is difficult, and frankly rather odd, to just take a day off from work to just rest, praise, and worship God. In fact its just downright weird to a lot of people and it seems counterproductive. But we need it. I need it. I NEED to just relax and have a day with just God. You need it as well. Whether you are going on the World Race and rushing to meet deadlines for fundraising, or a loved one to one of the racers trying to meet deadlines in your own life, make sure you are putting at least one day out of the week to relax, recharge, worship, and focus on God.
Monday is going to be my Sabbath this week. And I intend on just relaxing, reading, spending time with my sister, and most importantly thanking God for all He has blessed me with and praising Him for all his mercies and grace. Also might play a little Halo 4 on the XBOX 🙂
How are you going to spend your next Sabbath? Be sure to comment on the bottom!
Love you all so much and thank you for you on this blessed day!!
God Bless wherever you are in the world!!
