What does it look like to be obedient? That is a question that I have had to ask myself a lot lately. Lest recap on something’s that I haven’t told y’all about. While in Vietnam God really started to work on my heart and what I thought I wanted to do with my life. It all started with a question from one of my students that I was teaching english to and he asked me what I was going to do when I got back to the states. I said I’ll go back to college and continue to pursue my law degree. And in that moment it all came back to me God brought me back to a few years ago when I surrendered my life to the ministry “My son you know what I have called you to do and that is not to pursue your own desires. It’s for you to help people who cannot help themselves.” Is what our father said to me. My whole world was turned upside down and I started to look back on the last few years and what I saw was one compromise after another. until I was so lost it took me weeks to find myself again. I saw that I had walked away from all that I had valued and what I knew to have worth. To pursue what the world has put a value on. It seems that the answer is not as simple as one might think. As we walk through our lives we are constantly at war with ourself and what Gods will is. But when we reach a place where we are in total surrender then that is when obedience starts to happen. This is what we are called to do to surrender our lives to Gods will and to die to self. When we die to self we allow God to take control and then we pursue his will not our own. Paul talked about this in romans when he says that he is a bond servant. He willingly became a slave to Christ and his will. just like Christ followed the will of the father and came to earth to die for our sins we are also asked to follow the will of the father and not fear what the world might think. All of my life I have been told that I need a degree to be successful and that will open up doors for me to be successful. But what I have found is that when we are following the will of the father then he will provide.
