I LOVE to talk about current events and well seeing as I do live in Chicago I feel as if I need to address the talk of the town, and that is Jay Cutler. For those of you who aren't interested by football and or just don't care about the Bears i promise this has a good application so just… Bear with me, I'm so sorry for that awful joke, but I had to do it. So for those of you who did watch or haven't heard about it, Jay Cutler the bears quarterback wasn't playing very well for the first half of the game and then he left the game with a mysterious knee injury which they haven't really released any information to the press about yet. Now all I'm hearing is about how everyone in Chicago is mad at Jay and that he should have sucked it up and played, and that all the great quarterbacks in NFL history would have finished the game. Personally, I feel that Jay was left with one of the hardest decisions he will ever have to make in his athletic career, and I believe that he couldn't have made a smarter decision. In life we will go through many battles, and as always we will win some and we will lose some. Jay here was in one of the most epic battles of one of the oldest rivalries in professional sports history. Jay not only understood what this meant for him and his team but for the whole city. Now for the first half Jay played, but he was not doing good at all. In the second half Jay began sitting on the bench due to an injury in his knee. Not long after the second string quarterback went in was he sitting on the bench injured. So the third string qb trots onto the field late in the third quarter. What does he do? he shows a little promise but not much, then BOOM next thing you know he has brought the Bears down the field for their first score of the game, bringing them not just within seven points but bringing them within striking distance. Giving Chicago hope for the first time in the whole game. One bad play had the Bears back down by 14 points, to which as all hope seemed to slip away. Then BOOM another strike and the Bears hope is back alive and in full swing. The Bears now have the ball back with only minutes left on the clock. Jay has been sitting on the sideline since the beginning of the second half. Now not only do the coaches have a choice but so does Jay. Jay is the starting qb for a reason, he is much better then the third string, he is paid more, and well the third string just typically isn't good. Normally the you would see a decision along the lines of the starter coming back on the field for this last chance to win the game. This is where my HUGE pat on the back to Jay Cutler comes from. He not only had a good reason but every right to step up and say "Hey, I'm the starter, put me and and give me a chance to win the game." But he didn't as much as he wanted to be out there win or lose, he knew that his team would have a better shot at that very moment to win the game with the third string. He set his pride aside, basically saying "I am not the end all, be all." He recognized that he wasn't having a good day and stepped down to let someone who was having a great day take his shot.
Now I'm sure you can kind of see where I'm going with this at this point. So let me just get right to it. Jay set his pride aside and recognized his weaknesses, he took a step back and allowed his team to try to get it done without him. And when he saw the weakness in the team he was able to help his team by removing the weakness. Well here comes the point so brace yourself. We all should learn something from Jay here. When we recognize our weaknesses we are able to do something about them and we are able to lean on our strengths to pick us up. Throwing our pride aside is sometimes is so necessary to us realizing our weaknesses. Our pride is usually what stands between us and God.
