It was still pretty early and as I was headed home from talking with Levi about his mission trip, he called me and said he felt like our day wasn’t over. I was in full agreement and turned around to go pick him up. We headed to Portland so that I could get my check. Afterwards we went in search of a nice parking lot to pray in and start our treasure hunt with Jesus. We decided on a specific place and on our way there I felt the Lord telling me to turn into this park. It was a big circle with a playground on one side and a skate park on the other. On the side with the skate park there’s a high school. We decided to make a circuit, starting with the playground. Right off the bat, Levi walks up to a man walking his dog and watching his daughter play on the monkey bars. He tells him how great of a father he is and that Jesus loves him even more than the love he has for his daughter. We pray for him and walk off to find someone else. He actually walks across the park just to tell us to have a good weekend! You could see how blessed he was and it was a great way to start out the morning!
We took a roundabout course to the skate park, praying for the high school and the kids that walk through the doors on our way. We ended up crossing paths with a pair of guys that actually went to the high school we had just gotten done praying for. They were headed towards the skate park and Levi and I walked right in the way. We started asking them some questions and found out that one of them went to the local youth group. Levi was throwing Jesus’ love at them through his words and I was the prayer cover.
As I asked the Lord to give me words for these young men, he showed me the heart of the other one. Now this wasn’t my first word of knowledge that the Lord had blessed me with, but the excitement is the same no matter how many times it happens. I will never forget this kid’s face when I told him that he was having family problems at home that were creating confusion and anger towards God. Then Levi jumps in and paints the other half of the picture by telling him that it’s his dad and the fighting has gotten pretty bad. We talked with him for a while about how one of Papa’s favorite things to do, is turn bad into good. He confirmed everything we said and they completely receivde prayer. We hugged them, told them we loved them, and watched them turn around and head back the way they came. This is significant because right as they are starting to get out of site, the Lord tells me that they were heading to that skate park to buy drugs. I was blown away! Could this day get any better?!!? I heard the Lord say, “It's just getting started”!
I have learned that when we walk in Him, our paths lead to His glory! So next we went to a high place overlooking the city. We prayed for it and repented on behalf of it. What’s crazy is that there was a bunch of burnt candles and markings that pointed to some dark rituals taking place up there. After praying about it, we partnered with the Lord in breaking the witchcraft that had been spoken over the city. This is a little weird to talk about, but a very real and growing thing nonetheless. Before we left, we made a memorial of some small rocks to signify what the Lord had done. Like they did back in the day.
Back to the good stuff! So the next couple hours consisted of running around Portland talking with homeless people and praying for people in Starbucks. The “plan” though loosely made, was to go to a Friday night worship session at one of the churches that I go to and that Levi had never been to. We had prayed right through the deadline of leaving and decided to go to a prayer room that I know pretty well. What happens next is one of the most amazing things that the Lord has ever let me be a part of. So this is where I have to say “To be continued…”
