The truth?
The World Race isn’t a Jesus high all the times & adventure seeking life we all may perceive it to be.
Does that mean those things don’t exist? Heck no. Those things are very prevalent in what the race is but I wanna share some truths about what the race actually is a lot more often.
The race is choosing to say yes.
Just like life doesn’t just happen to you, the race doesn’t either. It’d be very easy to skate by the entire 11 months without changing at all.
Intentionality is the key. Being intentional with your conversations, being intentional with your time, being intentional with your “yes’s” & your “no’s”.
Seek after those people you may not normally find yourself around. Step into those moments that seem so uncomfortable but yet so good. Choose to say yes.
The race is all about abandonment.
Whether it be willingly or forced, physical or mental the race is when you learn to lay it all down.
I quickly had to learn to abandon my comfort when I found myself living in another country with 18 strangers. I had to learn to abandon my need for a closet full of clothes because nobody wants to carry it all in their packs on their backs. I had to learn to abandon any expectations I may have had because that’s the fastest way to have disappointments.
You really don’t need all that extra stuff anyways because as my good friend & teammate, Janele, always says, “You can’t take it to heaven.”
The race is about being flexible.
I couldn’t stress enough how hard the race would be without flexibility.
The amount of times plans change is absolutely insane. All the way down to the fact that your bus may show up two hours late or you might be asked moments before the program starts to get up on stage and share a testimony in front of a bunch of wide eyed locals.
While those points are all good and very true about the race, I’ve also learned one of the biggest truths is that the race isn’t going to change you.
I read this blog yesterday that pretty much took my breath away…literally though because I had to read it aloud 3 times to my squadmates.
Anyways, this blog was all about the fact that the World Race won’t save you. You can travel to the ends of the earth, you can go on all of these adventures but no matter what you may think, it won’t and will never be what actually saves you.
The change you are looking for in yourself or in the world, that thing that you’ve been looking for to save you is Jesus and it won’t be until you realize that, that you really truly are saved.
