12 hours on a bus turned into 24 hours later (thanks to getting stuck at the Zim/Botswana border) and we made it to Mochudi, Botswana.
Something I really want to work on is getting better at bringing you all into my journey through this blog.
So, let me introduce you to my new team, my new role and this new ministry.
Team Common Grounds:
The reason behind the name: we finally have a whole team that loves to drink coffee. It’s pretty much a spiritual experience.
My team is made up of 5 women, Nettie, Kristie, Kenadi, Janele & myself.
Something I have found is this team is a lot of strong individuals coming together as one to better serve the Lord.
If you read my last blog post (A United Battlefield) you’ll have a good idea how I was feeling about leaving my last team. Well the downside of a team having that effect is not wanting to feel that way again…yep that means it makes me want to hold back in my new team. Ish.
That’s exactly what the enemy wants, right? We’re stronger together than we are alone but holy smokes is it hard. It’s a daily battle to be present.
Here’s the real deal though. Not only is it a new team but I’m also stepping into a new role within our team. I’ve spent the last 4 months being our teams treasurer.
But wait Bran, what does a treasurer even do?
Glad you asked. The team treasurer is the one who is in charge of handling the money for the team. More specifically, we were the ones that handled our team money to pay for groceries, transportation, lodging, and anything else we may need to live on.
As team changes happened though I said goodbye to being a treasurer and said hello to being a Team Leader for Team Common Grounds.
Whoop. For real though, that’s nerve racking.
But wait Bran, what does a team leader even do?
Again, glad you asked. A team leader’s role is really an assortment of things. I now get to communicate with our ministry hosts, make sure we are doing our daily tasks like team time/feedback, and make sure the team gets from our ministry location to meet up with the rest of the squad at the end of the month…all while making sure these four other humans are in a safe and supportive environment.
Yep. Never quite expected to be in this position but hey, growth is happening.
So outside of our team environment we also have a new ministry this month as we are now in the great country of Botswana.
We are working with the organization “Youth for Christ”. This means that we get to be a part of many different aspects of working with youth.
Some of this includes things like:
Kids club
Daycare
A Christian Club at a school
Inferno – a weekly prayer meeting
Tutoring orphans
Yard work
Intercession
Girls club
Hospital visits
That’ll definitely fill my desire to keep my life from getting too consistent. LOL
All the things are happening and all the things are new and once again I cannot wait to see the way the Lord is going to work in all of this change.
Can you believe this is our last month in Africa already? I feel like we just got here yesterday and yet it feels like it’s been a lifetime.
Fun facts about Africa/Team Common Grounds: we now have adopted the phrase “TIA” meaning: “This is Africa” because commonly you will find that everyone here runs on their own time schedule and really you never know what will happen.
Grace & Peace,
Bran

Out here getting our coffee fix while catching up on some wifi. Meet Team Common Grounds!
