My parents came to see me this last week. It was really really strange having them here in what is actually my normal life. I think what was even weirder though was that my two worlds collided.
You see, they are my parents and yes, they are so obviously family, but them being here actually gave me more of an outsiders perspective on just how much my squad has also become my family.
When you’re doing life with people every single hour of every day in such an environment as the ones we are typically in, it’s easy to become close but I think it’s become more than that.
These are my brothers and sisters. I don’t think words will ever do justice for just how much this community means to me.
I can easily say that we are well past the honeymoon stage of the race and the “being on our best behavior because we still don’t want these people to see me struggle” place. We’re full blown in the trenches doing the thing, and there is no hiding who you really are.
As I look around at the people I’m doing life with, I wonder how a group of people that were once strangers could ever have become the community that B squad is. Well, the answer came to me almost faster than I could even think the thought. We are all here for one reason and one reason only, to know God and to make Him known. No matter what it takes.
Do you know how much better things are when you’re in community and your all striving towards the same thing?
There’s constantly people around to make you laugh when all you feel like doing is crying.
There’s constantly people surrounding you to fight your battles with you.
There’s constantly people around to give you new perspective or to shine light on things.
There is constantly people around to help carry the heavy burdens but also to celebrate the victories.
There is constantly people around that will point you back to the character of Jesus.
I don’t know what the next 4 months of the race will look like, but I can easily say I’ve never been more excited to step into something because B squad is on fire and I can’t wait to see us grow even more.
