So I’m sitting here pondering this question..in all reality this is something that has been going through my head in all different ways for the last few months.
Is there anybody else that sits in front of the mirror and just picks apart everything that they are looking at?
“Your eyelashes are too short.”
“You aren’t tan enough.”
“Your face is so round..especially when you smile.”
“Your eyes are too small.”
“Your hair looks frizzy.”
“This outfit makes you look chubby.”
“There’s no way you can pull that off so don’t even try it.”
I’m just gonna put it out there, I think most of us do this. No..I know that most of us do this.
Unfortunately nowadays the world we live in has instant access to all the latest trends, diets, hairstyles, fads, all the celebrities and all of our friends that we think we could never look as good as.
Unfortunately the world we live in tells us that our natural hair isn’t good enough and we should be putting energy into making every piece sit just right.
Unfortunately the world we live in tells us that the sun is overrated and we should just go lay in a bed to get instantly tan because we look better tan anyways.
Unfortunately the world we live in tells us that our eyelashes are too short or too straight and we need to go fix them.
Unfortunately the world we live in tells us that we need to be skinny enough to fit into the type of clothes or the style that we want to have.
Unfortunately the world tells us that we have to look a certain way or look a certain way just to be good enough.
Fortunately God says, “You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14)
Fortunately God says, “You are altogether beautiful my darling; there is no flaw in you.”
Fortunately “..God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them..” (Genesis 1:27)
Fortunately God says, “You do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world…” (John 15:19)
Fortunately God says, you are enough.
Next time you look in the mirror, I don’t want you to sit there and pick apart the person looking back at you. Next time, tell them how beautiful they are.
Next time, remind them that really were living for an audience of one.
Next time, remind them that the King of the universe thinks they are the most beautiful creation of all.
