My dad’s birthday is in just a few days, and I wanted to point out some of the selfless things my father has done throughout the years. My dad is a hardworking guy; he works a full time job, works little side jobs, is the handyman of the house, takes care of his mom and sister when they need help, and still finds time to be a Godly man and take care of his wife and kids.
There’s a lot of times I’ve seen Jesus in my dad, but I’m going to focus on just a few today, otherwise I’d go on and on.
Growing up, he would always enlist me to do construction work and other odd jobs around the house with him. We’ve built a shed, worked on the ATV, run electric through the house, built a fence, painted the house, etc.- we’ve done lots of odd jobs around the house together growing up, and we still do things together when I’m home. He could have done it better and faster without me, but he loves me and wants to do it with me, through me, and to teach me how to be a hard worker.
He’s an understanding person to talk to when I’m feeling emotional. Him and I are a lot alike when it comes to our mental process and emotions, so he understands me. He’s there to listen and listen only. He doesn’t interrupt, he doesn’t hold it over me. He just loves and listens to me.
Like I said in the beginning, he’s a hard worker. My dad is always working to provide for us. He’s said before that he missed out on things while my brother and I were growing up, but I never noticed. While I guess he was referring to the small things like a school Christmas party or something, he was always at the big things. I remember him being at every single one of my dance recitals with a bouquet of flowers. I remember him cheering on my youth football league when we made the playoffs. I remember him being there for the important things, and that’s all that mattered to me.
Honestly, that’s still all that matters to me. I know my dad will always be there for me! I know I could call him if I’m in trouble and he’ll be there for me. He takes care of me- financially, and like the time he cleaned off my snow covered car on his birthday so I could stay warm. He’s a giving guy, and I’m thankful that I see Jesus in Him in that way. He gives and gives and doesn’t ask for anything in return…if that isn’t like Jesus, I don’t know what is.
So happy birthday, daddy. You’re a good, good dad who’s been given to me by a good, good Father. I see Him in you. I see you, and I see the sacrifices you’ve made all my life. I see you working hard now so you can come to Ecuador to do a mission trip with me, and I see you working hard to help pay my bills while I’m gone. You’ve supported me on this journey from the day I told you I wanted to do the world race.
Thank you for always being my biggest supporter. Thank you for loving me (even when I didn’t deserve it: ages 16-19 lol.) Thank you for the things you’ve given up so that I could have more.
I love you, daddy. Happiest of Birthdays to my favorite dance partner!
Love,
Your little girl

My dad and I went out on a date around STL a couple days before I left…it was such a fun day!

My dad is pretty cool! Like dressing up as Santa to fundraiser for the Parent Vision Trip to Ecuador!
