First of all I want to emphasize how impactful this month has been. God has been working on me so much these last several weeks, and I’m excited to see what else He’ll bring as we enter into our last month in Africa.
While this month has been slower than last month, it’s been equally exciting! My team of 6 was joined up with girls from 3 other teams while the men had “manistry” month in the bush. We speculate that their month was filled with running around shirtless and lots of clicking noises, and honestly our nights weren’t too different from that, either. They let their facial hair grow out, and we did the same with our leg hair. It was a beautiful month of freedom in more ways than one!
October is the hottest month in Zambia, and boy did we sweat. 12-20 hours without electricity and no running water means cooking over a propane tank and bucket showers. Honestly, this has been my favorite month yet; the struggles really added to the sweetness.
Our week of ministry starts on Tuesday; we would travel over an hour to Makumba village where we held a Bible study. Women from surrounding villages would come to hear the word of God, and we had a translator to explain what we were saying to them.
On Wednesday’s we’d go to Ebenezer School; we’d dance to a few songs, play some games, perform a skit from a Bible story, and break into small groups to discuss what we’d learned. Some of those kids are so smart for their age, and their love for Jesus inspires me!
On Thursday’s we’d go to Sunshine School; we were with the younger kids, so we’d normally dance to a few songs, do a skit, play some games, have a short lesson, and dance some more. I never realized how bad it a dancer I was until I came to Africa!
Friday’s were one of my favorite days! We’d go to Ebenezer Orphanage and help out with whatever they needed. One day we deep cleaned the library-I’m talking am inch of dirt and dust on the books y’all, and another day we did the laundry in the baby home. Every time we were there, though, we played with the kids and poured love into them. Some wanted to be read to, some wanted to play, and some just wanted to sit on your lap and fall asleep. It was beautiful! I can’t wait to go back and volunteer there someday, and maybe even adopt a child from there.
On Saturday’s we held a kids camp. Different orphanages would bring their kids to the campground, and of course we’d dance to a few songs. Sometimes we’d have a skit, but every time we’d talk about Jesus and the love He shows for us. I had the honor to speak about being adopted into a new family- Christ’s family.
Sunday’s and Monday’s were days of rest- hallelujah! It’s so hard to pour into people when you’re running on empty, and I’m so thankful for our hosts, Sanderson and Lwendo, for recognizing that and encouraging us to rest.
Zambia has been life changing. I saw my first child birth here, and I saw so many spiritual births as well. While this has been my favorite month so far, I’m excited to see what else God has in store for me in Malawi.
Please continue to pray for Zambia and Africa as a whole. They need water- pray for rain. They need spiritual healing- pray for Jesus to enter into their lives and take control. They need to know the love of a Father- pray for God to make His presence known to His lost children.
Thank you for reading this, and thank you for always supporting me!
Much love,
Brandi
