Monday thru Wednesday
of this week, I have been working on reconstructing a rock wall at the entrance
to the ministry location.
Some parts of the wall
needed to be tore down to their foundation because they were built on mainly
small rocks with larger rocks above them.
This non-sturdy
foundation led to rocks on top being able to be pushed over with the push of a
hand.
There are kids that
sit on the wall, play by the wall, and walk near the wall and Team OIL and Team
Kina have been able to rebuild most of the rock wall near the entrance.
NOTE: There is a rock
wall around the entire 10 acres of the ministry site; we have not done all of
it!
My teammates have stated that I have a spiritual
gift of rock wall building. It’s probably because I see a hole, I pick up a
rock and fill the hole in the first try (most of the time that is).
I have been rebuilding one part of the wall, to the left of the entrance to
Zion’s Gate Ministries.

not for me.
On Monday, I was
standing next to the wall and talking to our ministry contact, Tony, telling
him that I did not like the way the wall looked. He told me that I had free
reign to redo it or not to.
I decided that I was
going to rebuild the wall.
Seconds after making
that decision I touched the top part of the wall and it just fell over with a
gentle push.
Minutes later, the entire wall was on the ground.

wall I was really glad I started the project because it was not built well.
There were many small rocks towards the foundation and many large rocks towards
the top.
If you know nothing
about constructing rock walls, it is best to have the larger rocks at the
bottom with minimal small rocks to fill in the cracks, and smaller rocks at the
top.

this process I remembered the scripture about building your house on the rock instead
of sinking sand. One fall or winter retreat that I went to with CCH in college
was about the passage of scripture.
scripture, I have found several passages that talk about building your
foundation on solid rock.
In Matthew 7 24-27, Jesus
spoke about The Wise and Foolish Builders; “Therefore
everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a
wise man who built his house on the rock.
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that
house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation of the rock. But
everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is
like a foolish man who built his house
on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat
against that house, and it fell with a great crash.“
Jesus spoke in this
passage about the importance to build your house on solid rock; otherwise it
would come down with rain, streams, and wind.
The irony in this is
that when we were rebuilding the wall, we came into a ton of dirt that was
within the rock wall.
Most likely from the
decades of the wall being built as well as being near the road with the streams
coming from the intense rain showers Honduras receives.
The wall was still
standing though, just not holding on by much.
In addition to finding
the passage in Matthew, I came across Isaiah 28:16, “So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: ‘See, I lay a stone in Zion, a
tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts
will never be dismayed.‘”
The crazy part about
this scripture is that the ministry is called Zion’s Gate Ministries.
I have literally been
laying stones in Zion, making sure the foundation is stable for years to come.
My question for you
is, where have you built your
foundation?
Is it on the things of this world?
Or is it in the everlasting promises of our
creator?
