Yesterday I ventured out of my comfort zone. My dear friend invited me to go to her church. I know that doesn’t sound ~adventurous~ but it was for me. I’ve grown up going to a traditional Lutheran service on Sundays my whole life. I was used the the choir’s voice mixing with the organ or piano. I was used to the pastor being very formal in his robe and the way he spoke. I was not used to what I was about to encounter. Right off the bat I could tell her church was different. There was a coffee bar with young workers where I would volunteer after service. But besides the coffee bar it was the atmosphere around me. I still can’t put it to words but I do know I loved it. Through out the service their was a band playing very contemporary christian music which was amazing because it was the music that I regularly listen to. Also the pastor, who was a very nice man I met when I made his coffee, could totally pass as a man in a biker clan with his beard and tattoos. (It was awesome) It didn’t matter though what he looked like his love for Jesus was empowering and the sermon he spoke really moved me.
To began he talked about how the only person in our lives to have true authority is God himself. Everyone else has false authority that was “given” to them by someone or something. He then went on a different track and began to explain the difference between Lord and Savior or essentially before the grave and after. He said its easy to ask Jesus to be our savior but to ask Him to be our Lord and take full authority of our lives is what most people struggle with. He wanted us to realize that Jesus should be apart of our everyday lives. Whether it be Wednesday afternoon to Friday night we should always respect His authority because He knows how to live our lives better than we do. But what really got me was I kept thinking of this mission trip and everyone going. We are all so young yet we are accepting His authority and giving Him our lives to let Him teach us and guide us in the right path. It astonishing to me that He’s gathering all these wonderful people together to do something amazing. All I can say is God is Great.
