Living at the wonderful hostel that we are at has been a blessing. Coming into the race I was under the impression that I would be living in a tent and using a squatty potty for nine months straight. Thankfully, that is not the case. I’m still unsure which country we will be using our tents in… but currently all I’m thinking about is the fact that I’m enjoying a mattress and good showers. Our hostel is so big that the entire squad of 41 people can all stay here at once which is awesome! However, it has taken some adjustment… considering there’s no alone time and its usually loud because…well… you know how a group of young adults can be… (#worldracers) Anyway, on a positive note, the showers are on the roof and I always have a shower buddy next to me who will sing along to my music with me! Just saying, it typically sounds like a concert on the roof. ?? I also love morning devotions with my squad! We all gather in one room while we do our individual devotions. Being with the squad so much in this way makes it seem like we are a family. I also spend most of my day with my team and it already feels like we are a family because we spend so much time together at our ministry!

Before I left for the race everyone asked me what I was going to be doing for my ministry. Honestly, I had no idea… something I’ve learned while being on the race is that I have to “go with the flow” which is something I’m not used to. I typically make my own schedule, have my own job, and have a car to go wherever I want. Being on the race is the complete opposite from that. Now, I don’t make my schedule (there hardly is ever a set schedule anyway), my ministry/job is with my team, and I don’t have a car here. As I’m learning to “go with the flow” I am realizing the joy in working as a team. This month my ministry involves painting the inside of a very large house with many rooms. So far, we have painted three rooms and the hallway upstairs. I love working with my team because we share funny stories, laugh until we cry, and dance and sing to music. For example, today me and two of my teammates (Sydney and Cammy) were finishing one of the rooms and we were playing songs from a Disney show. Sydney and I spontaneously start dancing all over the room singing at the top of our lungs! It was a blast and It will be one of the memories I will never forget.

This month has already been filled with challenges and I have learned so much about myself in the process! I can’t wait to see what the Lord does with my heart in the next 8 months.
