So I just got done reading a post by my friend/squad-mate Elizabeth Adcock titled Death is Beautiful and I was thinking of some stuff. I was reading, recently, an exerpt from Oswald Chambers’ My Utmost for His Highest about fasting, and what the point of fasting is. Basically his point is that when we give something up for a fast, we should not give something up for the sake of getting away from that thing (at least not that by itself). We should remove ourselves from something in order to get more of something else. And when we fast, we are fasting to get more of GOD.

In Elizabeth’s blog, she talks about the death of herself so that Christ would live in her. So she is giving up everything in her life to the point of death not just for death’s sake, but for the sake of Christ in her! She is seeking more of God and the only way to get more of Him is by losing herself!

When we fast, let us not say “I am going on a diet, cause I think God wants me to lose weight” but let us say “I am giving up this food, or this time, or this activity so that I can gain everything that Christ has to offer! I want more of Him.”

Not a long post, but I wanted to add what I have to Elizabeth’s great insight.

Thanks for reading.
