So this little blog has been on my mind since I flew from Los Angeles to Hong Kong and Manila over a month ago. Not too much, just a thought:
We departed LAX at around 2 am Pacific time headed to Hong Kong. The more west you go, the earlier it gets, until you finally come full circle and it’s 12 hours ahead of Eastern time. As we flew, we didn’t have any in-flight entertainment so I had time to look out the window to watch when the sun would come up. But i remembered that we were chasing the sun. As the sun went further and further west, so were we flying. So I pictured us just chasing one of our friends over a hill during a game of “tag,” and they just keep getting further and further out of site. But it turns out we are the pursue-er. We were the pursue-ees. The sun was following us, not vice versa. Sure enough, around 6 or 7 am (Hong Kong time) the sun snuck up behind us to begin our big day of finally meeting up with our squad and teammates in Manila.
This is a good analogy for how we see God. We get into this mindset that we’re pursuing God, and we’re chasing Christ over the next hill and we set up all these programs and time tables to try to catch God. But in reality, God is pursuing us and He will catch us. He chose us and wants to catch us. He wants to have us with Him.
Just a thought.
By the way, from today until the very end of November, I will not have ANY contact with you guys as we will be in the BIG COUNTRY! I can’t say it explicitly, but I think you guys know what I’m talking about when I say words like “RED,” or “Olympics,” or “Made in…” So I will post another long, crazy blog about our next month of ministry as soon as I return to Hong Kong from the Great Wall. Love you all and keep up with the Support. I definitely feel it. Peace.
